Iran fires missiles at Jerusalem as sirens blare and Israeli defences intercept launches from Lebanon amid escalating regional conflict.
JERUSALEM: Air raid sirens sounded twice in quick succession in Jerusalem on Wednesday following the detection of two missile barrages incoming from Iran, according to AFP journalists.
The Israeli military confirmed that air defence systems were actively operating to intercept the threat.
Shortly after announcing the first salvo, the military issued a separate statement confirming that several launches from Lebanon toward Israeli territory had been successfully intercepted after sirens also sounded in central Israel.
Lebanon was drawn into the regional conflict on Monday when the pro-Iran Hezbollah group launched an attack on Israel, stating it aimed to avenge the killing of Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei during US-Israeli strikes, which prompted immediate Israeli retaliation.
