Malaysians in the UAE are advised to follow local authorities’ instructions, including seeking immediate shelter during sirens, to avoid legal action.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians residing in the United Arab Emirates have been strongly advised to adhere to all instructions from local authorities during emergencies.

This includes immediately seeking shelter upon hearing warning sirens, with failure to comply risking legal consequences.

The Malaysian Embassy in Abu Dhabi shared the advisory on its Facebook page, featuring a poster from the UAE Interior Ministry titled “What to Do When You Hear a Warning Alert.”

The ministry highlighted that some members of the public incorrectly leave their homes or stop their cars to record videos when an alert sounds.

“The warning is issued for your safety. You must comply by heading to a safe place and taking shelter there until an ‘all clear’ alert is issued for the area,” it stated.

If caught in a vehicle, drivers should continue to their destination and then proceed to the nearest safe location.

“We ask for your cooperation to ensure your protection,” the ministry added, warning of legal accountability for non-compliance.
