Deputy minister urges Malaysian students in Middle East conflict zones to immediately report to embassies for safety and follow emergency protocols

IPOH: Malaysian students in conflict-affected areas of the Middle East have been advised to report immediately to Malaysian embassies.

Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim said they must comply with all instructions from missions abroad to ensure their safety.

He expressed confidence that embassies in Iran and neighbouring countries have activated emergency plans.

Adam Adli urged stranded students or citizens to follow every instruction and report themselves as soon as possible.

“The Malaysian government always prioritises the safety of its citizens in conflict areas,” he stated.

He was speaking after officiating the Apple Education Classroom at Politeknik Ungku Omar.

Adam Adli noted that past embassy actions have successfully protected Malaysians abroad during conflicts.

He acknowledged current difficulties due to airspace disruptions and related issues.

Commenting on parental concerns, he advised families to contact the Foreign Ministry or Wisma Putra for the latest information.

He assured that Malaysia’s strong diplomatic ties often grant it priority assistance from host nations.

“We have good relations with countries that are ready to assist,” he said, offering this as reassurance to worried families.

The update follows confirmation from Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir that 1,936 Malaysian students in six Middle Eastern countries are safe.

The students are located in Iran (6), Qatar (3), Kuwait (9), the United Arab Emirates (21), Saudi Arabia (135) and Jordan (1,762).
