
A foreign man was detained by KTMB auxiliary police for attempting to steal railway cable in a known hotspot area near Klang.
KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad auxiliary police have arrested a foreign national for attempting to steal railway cable along a track in Selangor.
The suspect was spotted acting suspiciously by patrolling officers in the cable theft ‘hotspot’ area at KM 37.478 along the Telok Gadong–Teluk Pulai sector at about 6.45 pm yesterday.
“When approached, the suspect attempted to flee but was successfully detained by the KTMB Auxiliary Police, and further inspection uncovered a small bag, a knife and a pair of scissors believed to have been used to carry out the criminal activity,” KTMB said in a statement.
The man, who was found to be without any identification documents, and the seized items were handed over to the Klang Selatan District Police Headquarters at 7.20 pm for further investigation.
He was detained under the Railways Act 1991 and the Land Public Transport Act 2010 for trespassing and damaging railway property, offences which carry a fine, imprisonment or both.
KTMB urged members of the public with information on suspicious activity along railway tracks to contact its auxiliary police information centre at 03-2263 1194 or the nearest police station.
