
Malaysian ministers celebrate women’s contributions and pledge continued empowerment efforts, highlighting their role in strengthening the nation
KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet has expressed its appreciation for the role, sacrifices and strength of women in shaping the nation’s future.
The tribute was issued in conjunction with International Women’s Day. Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri announced that the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration will be held on March 10 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the event. The government’s commitment to empowering women and ensuring their voices are valued is underscored by this official engagement.
This year’s national theme is ‘Memartabat Wanita, Memperkukuh Negara’ (Empowering Women, Strengthening the Nation). Nancy highlighted that valuing women directly strengthens the entire country.
In a Facebook post, she extended her gratitude to all women. “To all women: mothers, daughters, sisters, leaders, entrepreneurs, and educators, thank you for your dedication, sacrifices, and resilience that inspire us all,” she wrote.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil also paid tribute on social media. He described a woman’s love as a precious gift, specifically thanking his mother and wife for their strength and inspiration.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan emphasised his ministry’s focus on women’s economic participation. He stated that empowering women in both the formal and gig economy remains a key priority.
“Through skills development, social protection, fair job opportunities, and safe, inclusive workplaces, I am committed to helping more women join and thrive in the workforce,” Ramanan said. He believes equal opportunities for women benefit families, communities, and the nation.
Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup highlighted women’s crucial role in the sustainability agenda. He noted their active involvement as policymakers and scientific researchers is key to national goals.
“We must continue to give women the support and opportunities to shine and lead,” Arthur said. He added that empowering women helps build a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous nation for future generations.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing acknowledged women’s contributions in his sector. He said many women play a vital role in preserving local culture and community heritage with great passion and professionalism.
“Their efforts not only support community and economic development, but also help showcase the beauty and warmth of Malaysia’s diverse culture to the world,” Tiong stated. Greetings were also extended by Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali and Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
