
A Thai national died and three others were injured after a 4WD and an express bus collided at a traffic light intersection in Pekan early this morning
KUANTAN: A Thai national was killed and three others were injured in a collision between a four-wheel-drive vehicle and an express bus early this morning.
The accident occurred at a traffic light intersection at KM14 of the Pekan-Kuantan road at 1.15 am.
Pekan police chief Supt Zaidi Mat Zin said the Mitsubishi Triton 4WD was stationary at the light when it was rear-ended by the bus travelling in the same direction.
“The 4WD driver, a 29-year-old man, heading from Pulau Serai towards Kuantan, had stopped at a traffic light when it was rear-ended by a bus travelling in the same direction,” he said in a statement.
The impact killed the 4WD’s rear passenger, identified as 24-year-old labourer Hosneeamree, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Muhammad Shafwan Abdullah Aziz, 29, and front passenger Mohamad Asri Mohamad Yusoff, 36, sustained abdominal and head injuries.
Both men were rushed to Pekan Hospital for further treatment.
A passenger on the express bus, which was carrying 24 passengers and a relief driver, also sustained minor injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
