MACC and the Malaysian Armed Forces renew their strategic partnership to enhance integrity, governance, and transparency in defence procurement and management.

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Malaysian Armed Forces have pledged to deepen their strategic cooperation to bolster integrity and governance within the national defence sector.

This commitment was solidified during a courtesy visit by Chief of Defence Forces General Datuk Malek Razak Sulaiman to MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki at the MACC headquarters.

A key component of the enhanced collaboration will be the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding between the MACC Intelligence Division and the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation.

“This initiative represents a strategic approach to ensure that all processes are carried out transparently, responsibly and in compliance with government financial regulations and governance standards,” Azam said in a statement.

He added that the MACC has also agreed to partner with the MAF on integrity management training and strengthening the armed forces’ anti-corruption strategies.

The meeting included discussions on improving governance practices in procurement management, such as tenders and quotations, with a focus on strengthening oversight mechanisms over the next six months.

Both parties also explored ways to enhance cooperation in media management and communication to better support corruption prevention within the defence ecosystem.

The leaders exchanged views on technical matters and potential bilateral cooperation to improve service delivery efficiency while reinforcing a culture of integrity.

This meeting marked the first official engagement between Azam Baki and Malek Razak since the latter’s appointment as the 24th Chief of Defence Forces.
