The Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia confirms its current national squad will form the core for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) expects the recently announced national squad to remain the core lineup for the upcoming Asian Games.
PSM president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said this decision was jointly agreed with the National Sports Council.
He said the selection balanced tactical needs with a mix of senior and younger players.
“So far there are no changes to the team list,” Mohd Sumali told reporters after a PSM Supreme Committee meeting.
He added that PSM does not interfere in player selection, which is led by the head coach and coaching panel.
The panel also evaluates players’ ability to compete in multiple events due to squad size limits at the Asian Games.
The 2026 Asian Games will be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4.
Mohd Sumali also confirmed that previous issues regarding player releases have been resolved.
He said all athletes can now focus fully on preparations for major tournaments this year.
Earlier, the national squad received RM19,500 under the Sports Victory Prize Scheme for their 2025 Asia Cup success.
Men’s squad players also received RM5,000 each for excelling in the team event at the 2025 SEA Games.
Coaches and players received duit raya contributions as a token of appreciation for their commitment.
