
Pahang police approved 627 permits for firework and firecracker sales ahead of Aidilfitri, with four arrests made for illegal sales as monitoring continues.
KUANTAN: Pahang police have approved 627 permits for the sale of fireworks and firecrackers in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
The state police contingent received a total of 648 applications, with 19 rejected and two still under evaluation.
State police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said monitoring and inspection operations are underway to ensure all sellers comply with regulations.
His team has already made four arrests and seizures related to the offence of selling fireworks without a permit.
The monitoring operation will continue until the festive period concludes on March 26.
In a separate development, Yahaya provided an update on the tragic incident involving five family members in Taman Cerating Damai on Feb 17.
He said the case is still classified as a sudden death report while investigations continue.
Police have recorded statements from five witnesses, including family members and close friends of the victims.
Authorities are awaiting several reports from related agencies, including forensic and chemical analyses, before drawing any conclusions.
Yahaya also launched the Royal Malaysia Police Tanjung Putra 188 Fun Run and Fun Ride 2026 programme today.
The event will be held on May 23 at Padang MBK 1 here in conjunction with the 219th Police Day celebration.
It is targeting around 5,000 participants from various segments of society, including children.
The main categories are 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre runs, plus 10-kilometre and 50-kilometre cycling events.
Registration fees are set at RM50 for the 5 km run, RM60 for the 10 km run, and RM70 for the cycling events, with a RM5 discount for early registration.
Various attractive prizes and lucky draws await participants.
