SHAH ALAM: A company managing director pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of bribing a Department of Environment officer.

Goh Chin San, 53, is accused of giving RM5,000 to a DOE Senior Environmental Control Officer as an inducement not to take legal action against him.

The alleged offence relates to a potential breach of the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

It was allegedly committed on the roadside at Syarikat Huan Mao Technology Sdn Bhd’s premises in the Kuala Selangor district.

Goh was charged under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

The charge carries a potential prison term of up to 20 years and a substantial fine upon conviction.

Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud granted Goh bail of RM12,000 with one surety.

The court also ordered Goh to report monthly to the MACC office in Shah Alam.

He must surrender his passport to the court and not interfere with prosecution witnesses.

The case has been set for mention on May 13.

MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Arif Asyraf Mohd Khairi prosecuted the case.
