Malaysia’s humanitarian fund for Palestine receives RM10.35 million from GLCs, bringing total to RM113 million, with RM86 million already spent on aid.

PUTRAJAYA: The Humanitarian Trust Fund for the People of Palestine (AAKRP) has received an additional RM10.35 million in contributions from several government-linked and corporate entities.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan announced that this latest injection brings the total funds collected so far to RM113 million.

He confirmed that RM86 million of the total has already been spent to deliver humanitarian aid directly to the Palestinian people without any operational cost deductions.

“The fund is managed by a committee chaired by the ministry’s secretary-general, and is also audited with periodic reports submitted to the Cabinet,” Mohamad told a press conference.

The latest contributors include Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Media Prima Bhd, Telekom Malaysia, Berjaya Corporation, Kuala Lumpur Kepong and Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad.

Mohamad stated that the funds are channelled to various international organisations and NGOs involved in humanitarian aid operations in Palestine.

Among the recipient organisations are the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross and Malaysian NGOs under the Ops Ihsan initiative.

The government has also recently approved a separate allocation of RM9.6 million to Ops Ihsan to be channelled to various NGOs carrying out humanitarian operations in Gaza and elsewhere.

Mohamad reiterated that the AAKRP remains open to receive contributions from the public through the account details listed on the Foreign Ministry’s website.

He stressed that Malaysia will continue to voice its principled stand in supporting the Palestinian cause at the international level.

This advocacy includes promoting the two-state solution to ensure Palestinians have their own sovereign state and government.

Malaysia also condemns the crimes against humanity taking place in Gaza and the West Bank.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself has been very vocal in expressing Malaysia’s principled stand,” Mohamad added.
