A woman found a warning note on her windscreen after removing a cone and parking, sparking debate on “cop parking” culture

SOME residents believe placing a cone at a parking lot effectively reserves the space for them.

In a Threads post, Laila shared that she removed a cone from a parking spot and parked her car there. When she returned later, she discovered a printed A4 note stuck to her car’s front windscreen.

The note read, “I’ve already placed a yellow ‘No Parking’ cone, right? Why are you still parking your car? Don’t you understand the language? There are plenty of other parking spaces, right?”

Laila shared a photo of the note on Threads, jokingly thanking the person who left it.

“Thank you for the note. I thought it was a love letter at first. You really went through the effort of writing such a long one,” she wrote.

“I thought the owner had stepped away earlier, but it turns out it was just the cone’s ‘owner’.”

The note had been attached to her windscreen using cellophane tape.

Netizens said such disputes are a common occurrence at flat residences, where residents often “cop” parking spaces using various objects.

Adam Shafiq, who previously rented a flat, said the practice was widespread where he lived.

“When I got another place and was about to move, that night I threw away all the markers they used to ‘reserve’ spots,” he said.

“All kinds of things like bottles, cones, even old fans. I just cleared them all and dumped them in the rubbish bin.”

Another user, Ikram Zulkefli, said he had also experienced similar parking disputes.

According to him, if he sees an empty parking space with a cone placed on it, he would park his car in front of the yellow box and leave.

“We argued many times too. My reason was always the same. There’s a parking box, there’s a cone, and I didn’t park inside the box,” he said.
