A former university admin assistant denies misappropriating over RM200,000 in customer payments, citing financial hardship as she requests lower bail.

KUALA LUMPUR: A former financial administrative assistant at a university pleaded not guilty to criminal breach of trust involving RM204,603.10.

Nur Hasanah Abdul Rahim, 35, was charged with misappropriating customer payments entrusted to her at the university’s faculty of dentistry.

The mother of two allegedly committed the offence at the faculty’s cash counter between October 2017 and February 2020.

The charge under Section 408 of the Penal Code carries a potential prison term of one to 14 years, with whipping and a possible fine.

Deputy public prosecutor Izzat Amir Idham requested bail be set at RM50,000 with one surety.

The unrepresented accused appealed for lower bail, stating she now works as a babysitter earning RM1,800 monthly.

“I request bail of RM10,000 as I need to pay house rent, and my eldest child, aged nine, has autism,” she told the court.

She added that her father is unwell and her husband works as a technician.

Judge Azrul Darus allowed bail at RM15,000 in one surety and fixed April 17 for case mention.
