Police confirm key witnesses in a parliamentary democracy case have left Malaysia, as investigations proceed under Section 124B of the Penal Code.

BUKIT AMAN: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has confirmed that several key witnesses in an investigation into activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy have left the country.

Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said checks with the Immigration Department revealed the individuals departed via Kuala Lumpur International Airport between January and February.

Investigations are being conducted under Section 124B of the Penal Code. This follows a media statement issued by Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail on Feb 27.

“To date, statements have been recorded from 14 witnesses under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” Kumar said in a statement.

He added that PDRM is committed to conducting the investigation transparently and thoroughly in accordance with existing legal provisions.

Media reports on Feb 27 quoted the IGP as saying police were probing allegations of attempts to overthrow the government and undermine national stability. The reports suggested the case involved a local influential figure and an international media agency.

Kumar advised the public not to speculate on the case to respect the principles of criminal justice. The investigation is being handled by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit, Prosecution/Legal Division (D5) of the Bukit Aman CID.
