A Pagoh Polytechnic student was killed and his friend injured after their motorcycle collided with a car at the Pagoh University Hub Roundabout.
MUAR: A 19-year-old Pagoh Polytechnic student was killed and his pillion rider seriously injured in a collision with a car at the Pagoh University Hub Roundabout early today.
Muar police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the accident occurred around 8 am when a Perodua Axia, driven by a 32-year-old woman, approached the roundabout from Pagoh heading towards Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) Pagoh.
Preliminary investigations indicate the car driver suddenly switched lanes from right to left at the roundabout.
This manoeuvre caused the vehicle to collide with a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle travelling in the same direction in the left lane.
“The collision caused the motorcyclist, a 19-year-old male student, to suffer severe head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene,” Raiz Mukhliz said in a statement.
The pillion rider, also a 19-year-old student from the same polytechnic, sustained leg injuries.
He is currently receiving treatment at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF) here.
The car driver did not sustain any injuries and tested negative for drugs.
She has been detained to assist in the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
