The Ministry of Education refutes viral social media claims that a recent stakeholder meeting was held in a church, clarifying it took place in a registered school hall.

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Education has firmly denied viral social media allegations that an engagement session with private kindergarten stakeholders was held at a church.

Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad expressed his dismay at the unfounded claims, stating the meeting was conducted in the hall of Assumption International Secondary School in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

He emphasised that the school is fully registered with the ministry and was selected for its suitable amenities and facilities.

The choice also served to highlight the role of international schools within the nation’s private education ecosystem.

“The selection of Assumption International Secondary School also proves the good synergy between the MoE and private education providers,” he said in a statement.

Dr Mohd Azam described the viral claims as clearly malicious attempts to create public confusion and tarnish the ministry’s reputation.

“Taking the lessons of the Ramadan month, the MoE urges all parties to increase their acts of worship and not be involved in acts of slander,” he added.
