Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says PKR is committed to ensuring national progress benefits all segments of society, not just a privileged few.
KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) remains committed to ensuring national progress benefits all segments of society. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the party is not merely a political organisation but a movement for change.
He said PKR has consistently championed justice and the dignity of the people since its establishment. Anwar made these remarks in a Facebook post following the PKR Mini Convention and divisional meetings for Sarawak.
The PKR president said such gatherings with the party’s extended family are important. He stressed that the party was born from a determination to bring change and uplift the people.
Anwar said PKR carries the voice of communities across various races and regions. This includes championing native customary rights land issues in Sarawak and the welfare of people in Sabah, Kelantan, Perlis and Johor.
He stated that the country can only remain peaceful and strong when shared interests form the basis of the struggle. This must transcend narrow sentiments of race, locality or group.
At the convention, Anwar urged party leaders, members and activists to strengthen unity. He called on them to remain committed to the reform agenda.
“I stressed that the real test in implementing changes or reform is when you are in power, not after or when you are ousted,” he said.
Anwar admitted that not all reforms can be done in the desired time frame. He emphasised the importance of remaining consistent and recognising that the party is not “perfect” while doing its best.
“My strength today is anchored in the strength of the party,” he added. He credited the party’s divisions, branches, and wings for energising the spirit to realise a just, prosperous and dignified Malaysia.
