Ipoh police are tracking a suspect after an attempted cable theft was caught on video, with the case investigated under penal code sections for attempted theft.

IPOH: Police are hunting a suspect involved in an attempted cable theft on Jalan Tambun early this morning.

Ipoh district police chief Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the incident occurred in front of a hospital at about 4.05 am.

He stated that video footage shows the suspect driving a four-wheel-drive vehicle and lifting a manhole cover.

“The suspect quickly drove away from the scene after noticing his actions were being recorded by a member of the public,” Muhammad Najib said in a statement.

Police are tracking the suspect by gathering witness information and reviewing CCTV footage from the area.

The case is being investigated under Sections 379 and 511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft.

A 25-second video of the incident has been circulating on social media.
