Labuan Corporation grants a 50% rental cut for 517 market traders at UTC Labuan and 56 food court operators, providing RM573,000 in total relief for 2026
LABUAN: Labuan Corporation has announced a 50% discount on monthly rental for traders operating at the wet and dry markets of the Urban Transformation Centre Labuan.
The initiative, covering 517 traders at the Pasar Sentral building, will run for one year from January 1 to December 31, 2026.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the decision responds to challenges faced by small traders amid economic uncertainties.
“This 50% rental discount is a testament to our commitment to supporting their businesses during these challenging times,” she told reporters.
She added that the reduction will ease financial burdens and provide needed breathing space for vendors.
The discount covers stalls with monthly rentals ranging from RM35 to RM3,500.
Yeoh stated the initiative has a financial implication of RM450,000 for Labuan Corporation this year.
The same 50% discount will also be extended to 56 corporation premises at Medan Selera and Anjung Selera food courts.
This extension at the Labuan International Sea Sport Complex involves an estimated additional impact of RM123,000.
Yeoh also said local authorities in the Federal Territories would continue to exercise prudent spending.
This follows the Prime Minister’s recent reminder for government bodies to manage finances carefully.
