Kelantan’s Sultan Ismail Petra Airport completes expansion, boosting annual capacity to 4 million passengers to support growing traffic and tourism
PUTRAJAYA: The expansion works for Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, Kota Bharu (KBR) in Kelantan are now complete.
The airport will be fully operational from tomorrow, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
In a statement, Loke said the new terminal expansion has increased KBR’s capacity from 1.5 million to 4 million passengers annually.
With passenger movements reaching 1.7 million in 2025, a 16.2% increase from the previous year, this capacity boost can accommodate the growing passenger traffic.
The improved facilities at KBR include a larger terminal building. Arrival and departure levels have been separated to streamline passenger flow.
A new roadside layout with dedicated lanes for taxis and e-hailing services has also been implemented.
These improvements are expected to enhance passenger travel experience and support smoother airport operations, especially ahead of the upcoming festive season.
The upgrade also strengthens air connectivity to Kelantan. It supports the growth of the state’s tourism, business, and economic development sectors.
Loke noted that five airlines currently operate at KBR. They cover six domestic routes and one international route to Singapore.
The official launch ceremony for the expanded terminal will be announced at a later date.
