The Education Ministry will conduct a comprehensive review of home-based teaching and work arrangements, pending a Cabinet decision on flexible work policies.

TAIPING: The Education Ministry will conduct a comprehensive review of the implementation of Teaching and Learning from Home (PdPR) for students and its civil servants.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the review aims to ensure any decision made takes into account the interests of educators, parents and students.

He stated the ministry will ensure that any decision taken will not adversely affect pupils so the learning process can proceed smoothly.

“On behalf of MOE, we will make the best decision for educators, parents and our children,” Wong told reporters at an event in Taiping.

He added that all parties need to wait for the final decision and announcement from the Cabinet regarding working from home, which is expected next week.

The ministry is currently awaiting the Cabinet’s decision on the WFH initiative being studied by the government.

Education director-general Mohd Azam Ahmad said yesterday the MOE would hold a special discussion next week to refine the WFH mechanism.

This includes the implementation of PdPR among school students and ministry staff if the policy is implemented.

Chief Secretary to the Government Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz last Thursday said flexible working arrangements are viewed as a key measure to ensure continuity of government operations.

He cited the need to face an increasingly uncertain world due to geopolitical conflicts, disasters or public health crises.
