UMNO’s Zambry says Khairy Jamaluddin’s appeal to rejoin the party will be processed quickly, following a positive meeting with party president Ahmad Zahid.
PUTRAJAYA: The appeal application for former UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin to rejoin the party is not expected to take long. UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir (pic) stated that the process would be brought to the party’s Supreme Council.
He revealed that vice president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin had been appointed as the technical chairman to assess the appeal. Zambry cited the recent harmonious meeting between Khairy and UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as a positive indication for a swift resolution.
“This is a quick process and it was the president’s idea to establish the Rumah Bangsa to bring back former members,” said Zambry, who is also the Barisan Nasional secretary-general. He was speaking to reporters after the MADANI Malaysian Scholars Forum.
Ahmad Zahid announced he had received Khairy’s appeal letter yesterday. Khairy was dismissed from UMNO on Jan 23, 2023 for violating party discipline following the 15th general election.
Zambry, the Higher Education Minister, praised Khairy’s continued loyalty to UMNO despite his political difficulties. He also thanked the UMNO president for opening space with the ‘Rumah Bangsa’ initiative to facilitate returns.
The implementation of ‘Rumah Bangsa’ proves Ahmad Zahid is a leader with a big heart, according to Zambry. He described it as a civilised process within UMNO and national politics aimed at strengthening stability and development.
Regarding criticism of the idea, Zambry suggested some parties feel it poses a political challenge. He clarified that ‘Rumah Bangsa’ is intended as a place for deliberation on issues concerning Islam and the Malays.
