It’s only Tuesday but major highways in Malaysia are already congested as balik kampung travellers hit the road early this Raya.

With Hari Raya Aidilfitri still days away, many Malaysians have wasted no time hitting the road — and the traffic is already showing it.

REPORTS of heavy congestion on several major highways began circulating as early as today, as outstation workers and city dwellers started making their way back to their hometowns ahead of the festive season. Though Ramadan has yet to draw to a close, the balik kampung exodus appears to have kicked off well ahead of schedule.

A viral post on Threads by user @Hzqzuki captured what many travellers were already experiencing — a long, bumper-to-bumper queue of vehicles believed to be heading northbound.

“It’s only Tuesday and it’s already like this. Everyone please drive safely,” the user wrote, accompanying the post with footage of the gridlocked road.

The congestion was not limited to the main highways alone. In the comments section, user @Hamizahzarina noted that the route leading towards Gua Musang, Kelantan had also seen a noticeable surge in traffic.

“The road towards Gua Musang, Kelantan is already packed with cars,” she shared.

Not everyone viewed the early rush negatively, however. Fellow Threads user @Maznifarahanim offered a silver lining, suggesting that travelling early could ease the pressure for those who depart closer to the holiday.

“It’s good that some are leaving early — those who travel later can then do so more comfortably,” she remarked.

With the festive peak period still approaching, road users are advised to plan their journeys carefully, stay alert, and practise safe driving throughout the holiday travel season.
