China acknowledges US statements correcting media reports linking a potential Trump visit delay to the Strait of Hormuz, as both sides maintain communication.

BEIJING: China has taken note of clarifications from the United States regarding a potential delay to a planned visit by President Donald Trump.

Foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated that Beijing noted the US side publicly correcting false media reports.

“The US side has publicly clarified these false reports by the media, stating that the relevant reports are completely wrong, and emphasised that the visit has nothing to do with the issue of the open navigation of the Strait of Hormuz,” Lin said during a news briefing.

He confirmed that both nations are maintaining communications on the visit without providing further details.

Trump had suggested his visit could depend on China’s response to a request for help reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent later countered that assertion, calling it a “false narrative”.

The vital maritime passage has been effectively closed by Iran, sending oil prices soaring above USD 100 a barrel.

Washington had announced Trump would visit China from March 31 to April 2 to reset ties and extend a trade truce.

Beijing has not officially confirmed those dates in line with its standard diplomatic practice.
