Azerbaijan sends 76 tonnes of food and six tonnes of medical supplies to Iran, continuing its humanitarian support following recent regional tensions.

BAKU: Azerbaijan has dispatched a further 82 tonnes of humanitarian aid to neighbouring Iran, according to a report by the Azerbaijani APA news agency.

The latest consignment, transported by five trucks, comprises 76 tonnes of food alongside six tonnes of medicines and essential medical supplies.

This delivery follows an earlier shipment of more than 25 tonnes of aid sent to Iran on the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev.

The humanitarian assistance arrives amidst heightened regional tensions following military strikes by the United States and Israel on targets inside Iran in late February.

Those strikes, which caused damage and civilian casualties, were initially described by Washington and Tel Aviv as a preemptive measure against Iran’s nuclear programme.

US and Israeli officials later clarified their objective as seeking a change of power within the Islamic Republic.

Iran responded to the attacks by launching strikes against Israeli territory and US military facilities located across the West Asia region.
