Lionel Messi reached a historic 900 career goals for Inter Miami, a milestone celebrated by his manager as “insane” and a testament to his unique legacy.

LIONEL Messi scored the 900th goal of his legendary career on Wednesday.

The Argentine superstar needed just seven minutes to reach the milestone in Inter Miami’s CONCACAF Champions Cup last-16 tie against Nashville.

Messi, 38, collected a pass from Sergio Reguilon inside the penalty area and slotted a clinical finish past goalkeeper Brian Schwake.

The goal gave Miami a 1-0 lead in the second leg and on aggregate as they chased a quarter-final spot.

It was his 81st goal for the Major League Soccer club since joining in 2023.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner previously scored 672 goals for Barcelona and 32 for Paris Saint-Germain.

He has also netted 115 international goals for Argentina.

His first senior goal came 21 years ago for Barcelona against Albacete in 2005 when he was 17.

Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano, a former teammate, described the total as “insane”.

“I’ve been lucky enough to see most, or many, of the goals he’s scored,” Mascherano said.

“The number we’re talking about is insane, and that’s why Leo is a one of a kind.”

The match marked a farewell to Inter Miami’s Chase Stadium, their home since 2020.

The club will move into a new 26,700-seat facility next month.

Messi is expected to play in his sixth World Cup later this year as Argentina defend their title.

He has extended his Inter Miami contract through to the end of the 2028 season.

His prolific scoring includes 672 goals in 778 games for Barcelona, helping them win 35 trophies.

In Miami, his 81 goals in 96 appearances have helped secure the 2023 Leagues Cup and 2025 MLS Cup.

Messi’s 115 international goals include two in the 2022 World Cup final victory over France.

He remains second in the all-time scoring charts behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 965 career goals.

Brazilian legend Pele’s widely accepted total for club and country is 762 goals.
