Woman buys pulut udang at TTDI Bazaar Ramadan, gets pulut ikan instead — and fewer pieces for RM10
A Malaysian woman has taken to social media to express her frustration after discovering that a Bazaar Ramadan stall in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) had given her pulut ikan — steamed glutinous rice filled with fish — instead of the pulut udang, the shrimp-filled version she had specifically purchased.
What made the experience sting more was the fact that it was not her first time buying from the stall. She had visited and purchased from the same vendor on four prior occasions, making this her fifth purchase — and the one that left her feeling let down.
In a post on Threads.com, the woman shared that she had also noticed a reduction in quantity. Previously, she had received five pieces for RM10, but on this occasion she was handed only four pieces for the same price.
The seller’s explanation, she said, was that the shrimp used were bigger this time around — a justification she found unconvincing.
“That’s not how it works,” she wrote, adding that the pieces looked no different in size from what she had bought before.
The mix-up only came to light during buka puasa (breaking fast), when she finally unwrapped the banana leaf parcels and noticed the smell. The filling gave off a hanyir (fishy) odour and confirming it was fish, not shrimp.
“I feel betrayed because this is not the first time I bought from the same stall,” she wrote, emphasising that the repeated patronage made the experience all the more disappointing.
It remains unclear whether the mix-up was accidental or intentional.
