A young couple died in a head-on crash near Kota Tinggi, while four others in a second car sustained minor injuries

KOTA TINGGI: A couple were killed in a head-on collision on the Johor Bahru–Mersing road this morning.

The accident occurred at kilometre 77.3 near Kota Tinggi at about 9.45 am.

Kota Tinggi district police chief Supt Yusof Othman said the victims were travelling in a Nissan Sentra from Mersing towards Johor Bahru.

He said the car is believed to have entered the opposite lane and collided with a Proton Saga travelling from Pasir Gudang to Kuantan.

The male driver, 26, and his 25-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

Both sustained severe head and body injuries and were sent to the Forensic Unit of Kota Tinggi Hospital.

The driver of the Proton Saga, a 23-year-old woman, and her three male passengers escaped with minor injuries.

The three passengers, aged between 16 and 21, are siblings.
