The MADANI government’s Aidilfitri initiatives, including toll discounts and early cash aid, are praised for their targeted and compassionate approach to easing living costs.
KUALA LUMPUR: The MADANI Government Backbenchers Club has expressed full support for the government’s immediate measures to safeguard public well-being ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
BBC chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the approach reflects a structured and targeted intervention framework. She stated it eases the cost of living while strengthening economic recovery momentum.
Among the measures is a 50% toll discount with a financial implication of up to RM21.03 million. Zaliha described this as a significant intervention to reduce travel costs for those returning to their hometowns.
She also highlighted the fast-track discharge from bankruptcy for about 4,000 individuals. “This policy provides a second chance for individuals to contribute productively to the economy,” she said in a statement.
Zaliha said it reflects the government’s progressive and compassionate approach. The move also aims to reduce long-term social burdens.
Other measures include the early disbursement of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah to 5.2 million recipients. Special assistance for civil servants, retirees and religious groups is also part of the package.
Price control and supply assurance throughout Ramadan reflect the government’s comprehensive approach. Zaliha said this encompasses cost of living, social welfare and market stability.
The overall package highlights the government’s ability to coordinate fiscal and social policies simultaneously. She described it as a proactive intervention strategy to balance public needs with fiscal capacity.
“BBC views these measures as a clear manifestation of the MADANI principles,” she said. Zaliha added that these principles emphasise compassion and a people-centric approach.
Amid a challenging global economic environment, the government’s responsive action is key to maintaining national stability. She urged the public to practise prudent spending and disciplined financial management.
This will help maximise the long-term benefits of the initiatives. The BBC will continue its role as a strategic partner to the government.
It aims to support policies that deliver tangible benefits to the people. The club also ensures such policies are clearly understood at the grassroots level.
