
A 22-year-old food delivery rider is remanded for four days after being arrested for allegedly assaulting his pregnant wife in Melaka.
MELAKA: A 22-year-old food delivery rider has been remanded for four days over the alleged assault of his pregnant wife.
Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani issued the remand order at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court today, which will last until Monday.
The remand is to assist police investigations under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18(A) of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.
Section 323 provides for a maximum penalty of one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
The suspect was arrested by a team from the Melaka police contingent headquarters Criminal Investigation Department around 11 am yesterday.
Police arrested the man following allegations he beat his wife at a house in Taman Seri Kemendor, Jasin.
Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit confirmed the arrest of the suspect.
