Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim warns that small disputes must be addressed promptly to prevent crises, stressing unity and stability as Malaysia’s top priorities.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for minor disputes in the country to be resolved early to prevent them from escalating into crises that could undermine national peace.

He stressed that unity, stability, and security must remain top priorities as Malaysia navigates economic pressures and international uncertainties.

“We could see that once you start fighting, a country can be destroyed — the economy collapses, people lose their jobs, and even those who are healthy may become victims,” he said.

Anwar emphasised that issues involving religious or racial sensitivities must be resolved through law and dialogue, not emotion or provocation.

He made these remarks at the Santai Akhir Ramadan Bersama Pimpinan Komuniti Permatang Pauh programme at the Permatang Pasir Community Hall.

The Prime Minister called on the public to continue strengthening togetherness and preserving harmony for the country’s future.

“Safeguard national peace, especially as we are a country of diverse races and religions,” he urged.

He added that a little tension or dissatisfaction is normal, but conflict must be avoided.

Anwar also praised the spirit of tolerance within Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society as one of the nation’s greatest strengths.

He said the government continuously monitors the security situation through regular meetings with bodies like the National Security Council.

Enforcement agencies such as the police are also mobilised to ensure conditions remain under control.

“Other countries are facing unrest, their economies are declining and their currencies weakening,” Anwar noted.
