A Malaysian woman has gone viral after sharing her frustration over being criticised by her family for the amount of duit Raya she gave to her nieces and nephews.
“Is there anyone who gives duit Raya and still gets complaints? How do you deal with it, especially from your own family?” she wrote on Threads.
She then broke down her contributions over the years, explaining how her financial situation has changed:
- 2023: RM50 for one niece/nephew
- 2024: RM30 for two (she had just finished studying and wasn’t working yet — but was still criticised)
- 2025: RM50 for three
- 2026: RM25 for four (as she is currently paying for dental treatment and housing expenses and was criticised for the amount)
“I give when I can afford it. Are people really expecting me to always give RM50?” she said, adding that she just wants to enjoy good food when visiting her parents during Raya.
She also pointed out the double standard within her own family.
“When I was younger, I never even received RM50. Only got it maybe two or three times when I was older. My own siblings don’t give me duit Raya, but they insist I give RM50 to their children,” she shared.

In the comments, many netizens sympathised with her situation.
One user suggested a firm approach: “Anyone who complains automatically gets no duit Raya next year. That’s the only cure for ungrateful behaviour.”
However, the woman revealed that even her parents disapprove of withholding duit Raya, leaving her feeling stuck and overwhelmed.
“Even my parents criticise the idea of lowering or not giving duit Raya. I feel like crying,” she admitted.
