US Secretary of State Marco Rubio attends G7 meeting in France, with allies expected to press him on American strategy in the conflict with Iran.

CERNAY-LA-VILLE: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived on Friday for a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in France.

Talks at the Vaux-de-Cernay Abbey are expected to be dominated by tensions over the ongoing war against Iran.

This marks Rubio’s first trip abroad since the US-Israeli conflict with Iran began on February 28.

He is expected to face pressure from European and other allies over American strategy for the further conduct of the war.

The conflict has already led to a spike in global energy prices.

His attendance follows US President Donald Trump pushing back a deadline for strikes on Iran’s energy assets to April 6.

Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that talks with Iran “are going very well”.

The nature of these talks remains largely unclear.

The G7 group includes Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the UK and the United States.

Sessions will also focus on Ukraine, which European ministers insist must not be forgotten.

The meeting is due to wrap up with a news conference from French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot.
