
Perlis, four Kedah districts and Hulu Perak are under a level 2 heatwave alert, with 13 other areas at level 1 as temperatures soar.
KUALA LUMPUR: The entire state of Perlis, four districts in Kedah, and one district in Perak are currently under a level 2 heatwave alert.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued the update, identifying the affected Kedah districts as Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang and Baling, with Hulu Perak being the affected area in Perak.
A further 13 areas across Kedah, Penang, and Perak are experiencing a level 1 heatwave.
These include Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu, Pulau Langkawi, Kuala Muda, Sik, Kulim and Bandar Baharu in Kedah.
The affected areas in Penang are Timur Laut and Utara, while Selama, Kinta, Kuala Kangsar and Perak Tengah are affected in Perak.
A level 2 heatwave is declared when the maximum daily temperature hits between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
A level 1 alert is issued for temperatures between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius over the same period.
