Fahmi said a dedicated fund would be deployed to strengthen support systems for workers nationwide.

KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has called on major corporations to align with the Prime Minister’s push to prioritise worker welfare, particularly in improving wages and strengthening social protection, while maintaining sustainable business growth.

Speaking after the Labour Day celebration, Fahmi said a dedicated fund would be deployed to strengthen support systems for workers nationwide.

The fund will be managed through agencies including the Social Security Organisation (Socso), HRD Corp and TalentCorp, and is intended to enhance contributions, benefits and assistance for Malaysian employees.

He said the initiative reflects the government’s broader commitment to ensuring that national economic gains are translated into tangible improvements in workers’ livelihoods.

At the same time, Fahmi urged large corporations to respond to the Prime Minister’s call by taking proactive steps to raise salary levels and improve worker protections.

“Companies must examine how they can enhance support for workers, especially in terms of wages and protection, while maintaining sustainable profitability built on the hard work of employees,” he said.

Fahmi also took the opportunity to congratulate members of the media and corporate sector during the event, commending Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) for being recognised as the best media organisation this year.

He further praised government-linked companies Telekom Malaysia and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) for their achievements, noting their expanding presence and strong performance beyond Malaysia.

He said such recognition underscores the important role played by both media practitioners and GLCs in national development, while reiterating that worker welfare must remain a central priority as the country advances economically.
