SIBU, Oct 10 — The driver of a Perodua Kenari, seen in a viral video crashing into a motorcycle and several vehicles along Jalan Oya here on Oct 5, had his remand period extended by a further two days today.

Magistrate Oon Kork Chern issued the order following an extension application submitted by the investigating officer to enable further investigation into the case.

The 25-year-old suspect had been on a three-day remand from Oct 6.

He was arrested on the day of the incident, which happened near SMK St Elizabeth, and was tested positive for amphetamine abuse.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a previous statement said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Section 42(1) provides for imprisonment of up to five years, a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for not less than two years; while Section 15(1)(a) provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years, or both. — The Borneo Post
