Police hunt for lorry driver after hit-and-run on Seletar Expressway amid surge in motorcycle accidents in Singapore

Singapore, May 2 – Officials are searching for a truck driver suspected of abandoning the site of a hit-and-run on the Seletar Expressway, injuring a 21-year-old biker.

Police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) report they were notified of the crash on April 28 at around 3:40 pm on the SLE heading towards the Bukit Timah Expressway. When authorities reached the location, the driver had fled. Investigators state that “efforts to locate the driver are ongoing.”

SCDF teams discovered the motorcyclist conscious at the site and transported him to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for medical care. A photo posted on Facebook depicts the bike—with distinctive turquoise rims—lying beside white skid marks on the roadway.

Traffic police data released in February show motorcycle collisions climbed from 3,973 in 2024 to 4,227 in 2025. While motorcycles comprised roughly 15 percent of registered vehicles last year, riders and their pillion passengers represented 54.8 percent of all traffic incidents and 53 percent of road deaths.

Authorities emphasize that the investigation remains in progress.
