DUNGUN, May 24 — Two brothers are feared drowned while swimming with two friends in Sungai Beril, Paka, here today.

Paka Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Mohd Rizuan Ramli said Muhammad Amir Ashraf Mohd Zulnaidi, 15, and Muhammad Aidil Amsar Mohd Zulnaidi, 14, from Kampung Kolam here, were believed to have been swept away by strong currents while swimming in the river at about 11 am.

He said the department received an emergency call at 11.19 am, and firemen in an engine from the station arrived at the scene six minutes later.

Mohd Rizuan said the four students had gone to the river for a swim at about 10.30 am.

“However, two of them managed to save themselves while the other two are believed to have gone missing in the river, and search operations are currently underway,” he told reporters at the scene.

He said the search and rescue operation involved 15 personnel from the Paka station, with assistance from the Kerteh and Chukai stations. — Bernama
