Education Ministry prioritises literacy and numeracy in new blueprint, with RM73.79 million allocated for Perlis school projects
KANGAR: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is committed to addressing literacy and numeracy issues among students nationwide, which are also key priorities under the Malaysian Education Blueprint (RPM) 2026-2035.
Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the ministry would continue its efforts to ensure quality educational services while guaranteeing equitable access to education facilities for all.
“Literacy and numeracy have always been among the MOE’s key priorities. As I mentioned, the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2026-2035 was launched in January, and all these aspects are incorporated into the plan.
“The entire MOE fraternity upholds and deeply appreciates the royal decree of His Royal Highness the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail,” he said after the opening ceremony of the new Perlis State Education Department building today, which was graced by the Raja of Perlis.
Also present were the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
The Raja of Perlis, during the inauguration of the new building, said that literacy and numeracy issues must continue to be addressed in a focused manner to ensure that every student masters the fundamental skills of reading, writing and arithmetic from primary school onwards.
Meanwhile, Wong said that the construction and upgrading of educational infrastructure in Perlis reflects the MOE’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of education in the state.
He said that a total of 35 projects are being implemented in Perlis this year with an allocation of RM73.79 million, comprising 10 new projects under Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) and 25 ongoing projects.
“Of the 35 projects in Perlis, 24 involve construction or upgrading works, five involve land acquisition, and six involve the procurement of equipment and facilities,” he said.
Wong added that Phase 1 of the construction of the Perlis Malaysia Sports School, which will feature comprehensive sports facilities, is progressing well and is expected to be completed by January next year.
The scope of Phase 1 includes the construction of an administration block, an academic block housing 12 classrooms, a canteen, male and female hostels, a dining hall, a main grandstand, an archery range, a covered open court, a multipurpose badminton hall, an eight-lane synthetic track, a football field, and other facilities built according to established standards, he said.
He added that the government has also approved an allocation of RM104 million under RP1 of the 13MP for the construction of Phase 2 of the Perlis Malaysia Sports School.
