The Sessions Court orders the joint trial of Abu Sahid Mohamed’s corruption case and his wife’s money laundering case, involving over RM67 million in alleged illicit funds.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court has ordered the joint trial of corruption cases against Maju Holdings director Tan Sri Abu Sahid Mohamed and a money laundering case involving his wife.

Judge Suzana Hussin granted the prosecution’s application to hear Puan Sri Noor Azrina Mohd Azmi’s case alongside her husband’s.

Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Ahmad Akram Gharib said the cases involve the same transactions, a point not opposed by the defence.

Noor Azrina, 49, is accused of receiving RM67.14 million in alleged unlawful proceeds from Abu Sahid’s account into her own.

The alleged offence occurred at a bank in Bukit Tunku between March and November 2017.

She faces a charge under anti-money laundering laws, which carries a potential 15-year jail term and a substantial fine.

Abu Sahid, 75, faces a total of 18 corruption and money laundering charges.

He is accused of five counts of misappropriating over RM458.5 million in company funds between 2016 and 2019.

These charges under the Penal Code carry a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment, caning, and fines.

He also faces ten charges of transferring RM116.45 million in alleged unlawful proceeds to individuals and companies.

Additionally, he is accused of three counts of disposing of RM22.8 million through cheque withdrawals.

These charges fall under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

The court set the next mention date for April 6 for document submission.
