Sultan Ibrahim warns all agencies, including MACC, are under radar in anti-corruption drive

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is not exempt from scrutiny in the nation’s sweeping anti-corruption drive, as His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim warned that more individuals are currently within his “radar” in a no-compromise mission to eradicate graft across all government departments and agencies.

In a statement issued by the Royal Press Office (RPO) on Facebook today, the king made it clear that the fight against corruption extends beyond a handful of agencies or individuals, underscoring that no one is above the law.

His Majesty described corruption as a betrayal of the people’s trust, stressing that it will not be tolerated in the country’s administration.

“Do not think that fighting corruption is focused only on certain departments, or merely on those who give and receive (bribes),” Sultan Ibrahim said.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong cautioned that enforcement bodies including the Royal Malaysia Police, the Immigration Department and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department are also being monitored closely.

“The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is not excluded either,” His Majesty added firmly.

Sultan Ibrahim further warned that rank, position or influence would not shield anyone from action.

Agents acting as “middlemen”, as well as suppliers of equipment, uniforms and medical supplies, were also reminded that they fall within the scope of scrutiny.

“Regardless of your rank… you are also within my radar,” he said.

Recalling the Malay proverb “siapa makan cili, dia terasa pedas”, His Majesty cautioned against assuming ignorance on his part.

“Do not think I am unaware.

I have my own intelligence sources,” he said.

The king emphasised that anti-corruption efforts must not be cosmetic or reduced to rhetoric, warning that superficial measures would not suffice in addressing systemic wrongdoing.

He further decreed that officers who fail to carry out their entrusted duties with honesty and integrity should be transferred without delay.

“I have other alternatives.

If there are officers who are unable to carry out their entrusted responsibilities with honesty, give the opportunity to those who are more qualified and clean to undertake that responsibility,” Sultan Ibrahim added.
