Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan confirms all Malaysians stranded in West Asia are home, with no further evacuations planned as regional airspace reopens.

PUTRAJAYA: All Malaysians stranded by the conflict in West Asia have been safely repatriated. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan confirmed the completion of the operation, which included those on self-arranged umrah pilgrimages.

He stated there are currently no plans to evacuate Malaysians residing in the affected countries. They may, however, return home independently as the regional airspace reopens.

“The National Security Council (MKN) has taken over the task of monitoring the situation,” Mohamad said. He added that MKN will advise the Foreign Ministry on further coordination.

Mohamad made the remarks after attending the Malaysia MADANI Scholars Forum. The event, titled “Strategies for Malaysia and ASEAN in a World of Uncertainty”, was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

On the geopolitical situation, Mohamad described recent attacks as an undeclared and unjust war. He was referring to actions by Israel and the United States against Iran.

He urged all parties to prevent the conflict from escalating further. A prolonged war does not serve any party’s interest, he stressed.

Regarding Malaysia’s diplomatic stance, he said the government’s position was clearly stated in Parliament. Anwar had strongly condemned the violation of a sovereign nation’s territory.

“(Iran) is an independent nation whose sovereignty was attacked without justification,” Mohamad added.

Addressing maritime trade concerns, he said there were no new developments regarding Malaysian merchant vessels. The Strait of Hormuz area remains closed.

Media reports indicated Iran closed the Strait on March 1 following US-Israel attacks. The closure has significantly disrupted global oil exports and increased volatility in energy markets.
