
Former Bank Negara chief economist Andrew Sheng appointed as special adviser to Sabah CM Hajiji Noor, bringing global finance expertise to the state.
KOTA KINABALU: Former chief economist and assistant governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Tan Sri Andrew Sheng, has been appointed special adviser to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Hajiji said Sheng’s extensive experience and strong credentials will be a major advantage for Sabah in tackling current and future economic challenges.
“We look forward to his input, especially in the economic and investment sectors,” Hajiji said after meeting Sheng at the Chief Minister’s official residence, Sri Gaya.
The statement noted that Sheng, a respected Asian banker and financial regulator, was raised in Sabah in the early 1960s and is now based in Hong Kong.
He brings broad international finance experience, having served as deputy chief executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and senior manager at the World Bank.
Sheng also previously served as executive chairman of Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission.
He is currently a special professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Institute of Finance and sits on several international advisory boards in China.
