France star Antoine Griezmann is in transfer talks with Orlando City, a source confirms, as the MLS club holds priority rights to sign the Atletico Madrid legend.

FRANCE’S World Cup-winning forward Antoine Griezmann is in discussions over a potential move to Major League Soccer’s Orlando City. A source close to the negotiations confirmed the talks to AFP.

The 34-year-old remains a key figure at Atletico Madrid, where he is the club’s all-time leading scorer. He has netted 12 goals in 36 appearances this season.

Atletico coach Diego Simeone recently said Griezmann has earned the right to choose his own future. “I hope he chooses what he thinks is best, and what he wants, because he deserves whatever he wants,” Simeone said.

Club president Enrique Cerezo expressed surprise at the transfer news. He stated Griezmann is still “adored by our fans, and essential to the team.”

The source confirmed Orlando City holds Griezmann’s MLS “discovery rights.” This mechanism gives the club priority to negotiate a transfer for the player.

No agreement has been reached between the parties at this stage. The MLS transfer window remains open until late March.

Griezmann extended his contract with Atletico last year until 2027. He scored 44 goals in 137 appearances for France before retiring from international duty in 2024.

A move would continue Orlando’s history of high-profile signings, which includes former Ballon d’Or winner Kaka. The club failed to qualify for the most recent MLS playoffs.
