Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim calls for prudence and maturity in global politics, highlighting the need to restore sanity among world leaders amid serious international challenges.

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for a stronger emphasis on prudence and maturity in international politics. He stressed the urgent need to restore “sanity” among world leaders.

While refraining from elaborating on specific global tensions, Anwar said his main concern was the need to “bring back sanity among political leaders”. He noted that while the region remained relatively stable, other parts of the world faced serious challenges.

“My main concern about international politics, which I do not want to touch upon now, is the need to bring back sanity among political leaders,” he said. He added that this issue was more pressing in other regions than in Southeast Asia.

Anwar made these remarks during his speech at the Foreign Ministry’s breaking of fast programme. The event was attended by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Anwar’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Also present were Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. Ambassadors, high commissioners, and officials from foreign missions in Malaysia were also in attendance.

The Prime Minister praised the Foreign Ministry for its dedication and professionalism. He specifically highlighted its work during Malaysia’s leadership of ASEAN last year.

“He and his team, under the guidance of the foreign minister did a superb job,” Anwar said, referring to Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin. He also lauded Wisma Putra for its commendable overall performance.

Anwar stated that official visits abroad have generated tangible benefits for the country. He said the ministry’s engagements are designed to deliver real advantages while elevating Malaysia’s standing as a trading nation.

Earlier, Anwar launched the Foreign Ministry Strategic Plan 2026-2030. This document will serve as the guiding framework for Malaysia’s international engagement over the next five years.
