Sarawak Premier Abang Johari says PM Anwar Ibrahim’s diplomatic outreach can help calm West Asia tensions and stabilise the global economy.
KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s diplomatic efforts to ease West Asia tensions are expected to significantly impact global political and economic stability. Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg expressed this view at a state-level breaking of fast event today.
He said Anwar has been actively communicating with leaders of Islamic countries to find ways to resolve the escalating regional conflict. “Because of what is happening in West Asia today, he (Anwar) has been contacted by Islamic leaders to seek ways to address this very important issue,” Abang Johari stated.
The Premier noted the conflict has implications for the global economy, especially within this region. “We pray that the Prime Minister will be able to offer his ideas and encouragement to help calm the situation,” he added.
Abang Johari stressed that Anwar’s efforts are crucial for easing global geopolitical tensions. He said this ensures a stability that benefits the international community.
The Premier also emphasised that Anwar’s ability to play such a role is supported by Malaysia’s domestic political stability and national unity. “If our country were in turmoil, the Prime Minister would have to focus on domestic issues that would not help society beyond our borders,” he explained.
He said Malaysia is currently enjoying a peaceful environment with improving economic conditions. This includes a strengthening currency and increasing foreign investments.
Abang Johari noted Sarawak is also benefiting from these positive developments. He said more foreign ambassadors and investors are visiting the state to explore opportunities.
“In the end, all Malaysians, regardless of race and belief, will benefit,” he said. He described this as the spirit of ‘segulai sejalai’ or togetherness that exists in the country.
Abang Johari said strong national leadership enables effective foreign and domestic policies. These policies strengthen the country’s economic position and social wellbeing.
The event was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Mustapha Sakmud and Sarawak Cabinet members were also present.
