ISKANDAR PUTERI, Oct 9 — A Bangladeshi woman has been remanded for five days from today after she allegedly pulled off a ‘Lorena Bobbitt ’on her cheating boyfriend as she cut off his manhood in a fit of jealousy at Kampung Lokan in Gelang Patah near here yesterday morning.

Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP M. Kumarasan said the suspect was arrested at 12.15pm yesterday after a 47-year-old local man lodged a police report at 10.45am.

According to him, the report was made after the man learnt that his acquaintance, who is the 33-year-old Bangladeshi man, suffered serious injuries to his masculinity and left hand, with cuts allegedly inflicted by the 34-year-old woman.

The crime of severing male genitals made tabloid headlines 25 years ago (in 1993) in the United States when Lorena Gallo, who was traumatised by domestic abuse, became a household name after she cut off her husband’s genitals with a kitchen knife (surgeons later reattached John Bobbitt’s organ) and threw it into a field.

“Investigations show the incident was motivated by jealousy when the suspect learned that the boyfriend had not yet divorced his wife in Bangladesh despite being in romance with her,” Kumaresan said in a statement.

He said the arrest also led to the seizure of a 29-centimetre knife which was believed to have been the weapon wielded.

A police check showed the suspect has no criminal record and also tested negative for drugs, while the boyfriend is currently being treated at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with a weapon and Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act for entering and staying without a valid permit. — Bernama
