Barisan Nasional aims to rebrand as a more progressive and inclusive coalition to face current political challenges while retaining its core values.
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) has concluded that a rebranding exercise is necessary for the coalition to emerge as a more progressive and inclusive entity aligned with current public aspirations.
BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir stated that the rebranding must be founded on balanced, moderate, and consensus-based politics without abandoning the coalition’s foundational struggle and core values.
This matter was a major focus during a recent BN leadership retreat designed to strengthen unity and plan strategic forward measures for all component parties.
Zambry explained that the leadership collectively stressed commitments to ensure unity and internal strength to keep BN relevant as the best choice in Malaysia’s dynamic political landscape.
He added that the coalition agreed political consolidation must be pursued in an organised and realistic manner according to current developments.
The retreat gathered leaders from UMNO, MCA, MIC, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), Parti Progresif Penduduk (PPP), and the Friends of BN president.
Zambry said the full attendance reflected a strong spirit of togetherness and a shared determination to strengthen the coalition’s position as an important foundation in national politics.
The coalition also agreed to begin immediate preparations for all possibilities, including upcoming state elections in Melaka and Johor as well as the next general election.
Discussions highlighted a joint concern for maintaining national peace and stability, with BN’s stance being that sensitive racial and religious issues must be tackled through consensus, moderation, and political wisdom.
Zambry reiterated that BN’s leadership within the government will continue to execute its duties responsibly and play a constructive role in strengthening the Unity Government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
