Azmin Ali dismisses dissolution claims as baseless and unconstitutional amid party leadership crisis

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu has firmly rejected reports claiming that four of its divisions were dissolved after several committee members resigned.

Secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali described the allegations as baseless, unconstitutional, and in violation of the party’s own constitution.

“We have received reports alleging that the Larut, Lembah Pantai, Kepala Batas, and Tanjong divisions have been dissolved due to the resignation of some division committee members,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

“These claims are unfounded, unconstitutional, and contradict multiple provisions within Bersatu’s constitution and regulations. The party constitution does not grant any party member, including division chiefs, the authority to dissolve a division.”

Azmin indicated that the party’s supreme council will take appropriate action in accordance with constitutional provisions.

He characterised the claims as a desperate attempt by individuals with ill intentions to damage the party’s reputation and undermine its stability.

According to Azmin, during the Bersatu supreme council meeting held on Saturday, February 14, the party decided to take proactive measures by instructing state leaders to closely monitor each division.

The controversy follows earlier reports suggesting that additional divisions and associate wings were planning to dissolve themselves in response to the expulsion of deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

On Friday, (February 13), Bersatu expelled 17 members, including several supreme council members, MPs, and state assemblymen. Opposition leader Hamzah was among those sacked.
