Protesters gather at Sogo, chanting slogans and urging MACC chief Azam Baki to step down
KUALA LUMPUR: Chants have erupted at the “Tangkap Azam Baki” rally in front of Sogo today, with protesters shouting slogans such as “Rise, People!” and “Youth Are Here to Resist”, calling for Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki to step down.
This marks the second round of demonstrations against Azam Baki, following a similar protest in 2022 over earlier reports concerning his shareholding and trading activities.
The rally was prompted by a series of Bloomberg reports last week alleging potential conflicts of interest involving the MACC chief.
Protesters are expected to march to Dataran Merdeka.

Earlier, the MACC chief has rejected calls for him to go on leave while under investigation over share ownership allegations.
Responding to demands from several Members of Parliament that he take time off, Azam dismissed the suggestion as unnecessary.
The Attorney General, Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Moktar, who heads the Special Investigation Committee looking into Azam’s alleged share ownership, announced yesterday that the probe has commenced.
